K-1 Enhancing Writing
Supports Common Core Writing Strand
Frog Street’s Enhancing Writing begins by answering important questions that lay the foundation for efective writing instruction in the classroom, such as “What is modeled writing?”“How often should my students engage in shared writing lessons?”“How do I scafold early writing development?” and “How do I help students who are struggling with handwriting luency?” Speciic activities are modeled, using the program materials, to explain and demonstrate this foundational structure.
The heart of the program includes complete lesson plans that center around writing personal narratives using a 6-step process:
• Modeled Writing
• Read-Aloud Discussion
Each student will use a personal writing journal (provided in the program) to write narratives using journal prompts.
A special tote is included with instructions for creating a take-home bag for family involvement.
Mr. Pencil, Frog Street Live DVD, and dry erase boards and markers ofer support to teach and
practice handwriting skills.
